Teaching is an impactful occupation, as educators have the ability to shape students’ minds into becoming active citizens within their society and the leaders of our future. It is critical for students to not only learn and understand fundamental knowledge in the classroom, but also how to have a growth mindset, how to show respect and compassion towards others, and how to simply be a good person. I believe these skills are important to begin to teach and enforce at the elementary level, as students will be able to use these skills throughout the rest of their academic and workplace careers.

I will strive to create a stimulating, educational environment where students can grow mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically. I believe that creating this type of classroom atmosphere will allow students to maximize their potential and form strong relationships with their classmates and myself. My classroom will stand as a safe environment for students to share ideas, express themselves, and embrace the differences of others.

The ultimate goals I have for students are to strive for success, learn from failure, begin to find their voice and who they are, and gain a passion for learning new things. As a motivated and enthusiastic educator, I am dedicated to enabling young minds to grow and achieve.

A Little About Me

About Me

Hello all! My name is Shania Mundy. I am currently a Kindergarten and Technology teacher at Lincoln Trail Elementary School in Lamar, Indiana. Yes, you read that right! I teach both half-day Kindergarten, as well as Technology classes for grades 1, 4, 5 and 6. I spend my mornings teaching upper-level students, with the exception of first grade, all about relevant Computer Science topics. My afternoons are spent teaching Kindergarten students reading and writing lessons!

Prior to my first year of teaching, I pursued an education degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. In May of 2020, I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Math and a Computer Education License Addition. My education helped prepare me for an unforgettable first year teaching experience amidst the middle of a global pandemic!

Prior to attending Indiana University, I grew up in Santa Claus, IN! All throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I had some of the greatest teachers that inspired, motivated, and pushed me to become the person I am today. Because of them, I chose to enter into the field of Education. I aspired to be an educator because I wanted to help make students feel the same way I felt when I attended K-12 schooling; in love with school and excited to learn.

I feel pretty lucky that I have the opportunity to come to school every day and continue to learn alongside my students. Seeing students' growth, progress throughout the school year and excitement to learn new things just helps confirm that I am doing exactly what I was meant to do; teach.
